Data Analyst – United States – Remote

Position: Data Analyst
As a Data Analyst, you will collaborate with a close-knit team to leverage our codebase and collective skills in SQL, Python, Power BI, and Excel. Your primary responsibility will be to maintain existing reporting systems and develop new solutions for a diverse range of internal and external customers. Our goal is to translate complex data into clear, actionable reports and dashboards that inform decisions across the company. We are passionate about data and continuously seek new tools and approaches to enhance our work and customer experience.

Work Environment
Nelnet supports a hybrid work model that balances in-office and remote work. This approach promotes a positive work-life balance, allowing for in-person collaboration while also providing the flexibility of remote work. Hybrid roles typically follow a 3/2 in-office/work-from-home schedule for associates living within 30 miles of an office. Fully remote positions are available for candidates residing more than 30 miles from an office.
Key Responsibilities
- Extract and analyze complex datasets to identify trends and key insights.
- Provide strategic recommendations for system and process improvements based on data analysis.
- Compile, present, and discuss findings with customers through impactful narratives and visualizations.
- Develop reports and dashboards to communicate performance metrics and monitor data quality.
- Continuously seek opportunities for process automation and programmatic solutions to enhance efficiency.
- Proactively address customer needs and support the Nelnet Management team.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience.
Experience:
- At least 1 year of data analytics experience, with a proven track record in similar roles.
Competencies – Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
- Proficiency in data extraction, manipulation, and querying using tools such as Microsoft T-SQL and Snowflake SQL.
- Familiarity with data access and structuring tools (e.g., SQL Server Management Studio, Python, Snowflake SQL, Microsoft Power Query).
- Experience with reporting and dashboarding software (e.g., Microsoft Power BI, DAX).
- Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, charts, and Pivot Tables.
- Knowledge of Python for data manipulation and process automation.
- Familiarity with ETL processes, data mapping, and cleansing using Python and SQL.
- Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong negotiation, facilitation, and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines consistently.
- Customer-focused approach with the ability to meet and manage expectations professionally.
- Experience in the student loan or finance industry is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
The annual compensation for this salaried role ranges from $50,000 to $70,000. Our benefits package includes:
